Uganda wildlife and Gorillas in Rwanda - 12 days

Gorillas, Chimpanzees, lions in Rwanda and Uganda - 12 days

On this trip you will enjoy the beautiful landscape in Rwanda and western Uganda, Gorillas, Chimpanzees, lions in Rwanda and Uganda, and a wide range of mammals including the big five( lions, elephants, leopards, buffaloes and rhinos), giraffes, hippos, crocodiles, hyenas, Antelope species, zebras, over 650 bird species, among others. Also you will see crater and fresh water lakes, tropical rain forests and the Batwa people.
Parks to be visited: Murchison falls national park, Kibale National park, Queen Elizabeth, Bwindi Impenetrable and Parc Nationale des Volcanoes in Rwanda.
The trip will start from Kampala then to Murchison falls national park, kibale national park for chimpanzees, queen elizabeth national park for the "big five" especially the tree climbing lions at Ishasha. You will then proceed south to Bwindi national park for the mountain gorilla experience and then ending the tour with a trip to Parc Nationale des Volcanoes in Rwanda for the second Gorilla trek.

Itinerary

DAY 1: ARRIVAL

Upon arrival, the driver will pick you up and then will take you to your guest house to relax and in case there is some free time, you can have a tour around Kampala and Entebbe.

DAY 2: ZIWA RHINO SANCTUARY AND MURCHISON FALLS

We meet and greet and then start on the journey to the park. We travel north through Luweero triangle and then get a chance to see Rhinos at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary. We continue on our journey, have lunch and then proceed to the park. We will have a look at the beautiful falls standing on top of the Nile while looking down at these magnificent forces of nature. After enjoying the spectacle, we then Check in and rest.

DAY 3: GAME DRIVE AND BOAT CRUISE AT THE NILE

We have breakfast and then start on the tour of the park. We drive through the park looking for buffaloes, giraffes, lions, leopards, primates, elephants several bird species and other wildlife. We break off for lunch and then go for an evening boat ride along the Nile river. Here you get a chance to look at the falls on a close range. This spectacle will leave you breathless, besides looking at the falls and listening to the roar of the water, you also enjoy the variety of animals along the river banks. These include Hippos, antelopes, crocodiles, buffaloes, birds and other animals as they are having a drink from the river.

DAY 4: CHIMPANZEES AND OTHER PRIMATES EXPERIENCE

Primates to be seen are; Chimpanzees, Red tailed monkeys, Black and white Columbus monkeys, Pottos, L’Hoest Monkeys, Grey cheecked Mangabey, bush babies and others. After spending time with the mammals, we then proceed to Bigodi Wetland sanctuary. Among the sites include; bush pigs, blue monkeys, baboons, mongoose, otters, bush bucks, and among others.

DAY 5: TRIP TO QUEEN ELIZABETH NATIONAL PARK

We checkout and then start on our journey to queen Elizabeth national park.
"Queen Elizabeth national park that has over 95 mammal species including "the big five", over 600 species, hippos, 10 primate species including( L'Hoest monkey, baboons, red-tailed monkey, Colobus, chimps etc), crocodiles, leopards, hyenas, antelopes, crater, salty and fresh-water lakes, and so many breathtaking scenery. The park is also famous for its tree climbing lions and it is located at the foothills of mountain Rwenzori"
Upon arriving, you check in and the wait for the evening game drive. You will see a wide range of wildlife including Elephants, kobs etc.

DAY 6: GAME VIEWING ON THE KAZINGA CHANNEL

You will have an early morning game drive to have a look at a variety of animals including elephants, buffaloes, lions, antelopes and several others. You should also look around for the Leopard
In the evening have a boat ride along the kazinga channel. Kazinga channel connects lake Edward and lake George and a trip on the channel is the best way to see animals drinking water and those that are resting. Along the channel you will have a look at hippos, crocodiles, buffaloes, antelope species and many more. Also see several bird species including the eagle, pelicans, king-fisher, etc.
Optional Activity: A view while on a Hot Air balloon
In case you want to have an wide view of the sites around the park, you can hire the balloon for one hour. However to hire the balloon you will have to pay an extra $380 per person.

DAY 7: TREE CLIMBING LIONS

This is the third day in queen Elizabeth national park. The main activity on this day is a trip to Ishasha camp famous for its tree climbing lions. However you will also have a look at other animals around the park and then in the afternoon we travel south to lake Bunyonyi.

DAY 8: LAKE BUNYONYI AND BWINDI

On this day you will enjoy the sights and sounds around lake Bunyonyi.

DAY 9: GORILLA TRACKING EXPERIENCE

Wake up in the morning, have breakfast and then get briefing from the guide before starting on the gorilla trek. After freshening up, the trek for Gorillas and other primates begins. The trek will see you go through bamboo and tropical rain forests. Upon getting confirmation from the Gorilla Tracker about the where about of the primates, there will be resting for a short time before having a moment with the gorillas. Only one hour is allowed and you can take pictures, then embark on the trek back to the camp.
Bwindi forest is blessed with 360 bird species, 5 primates species, over 200 butterfly species and about 113 mammals, therefore along the way to meet the gorillas, you can have a glimpse of these sights.

DAY 10: JOURNEY TO RWANDA

In the morning, we will have breakfast and then move south to Rwanda for the second Gorilla trek. Upon arrival, we check in and then rest.

Day 11: GORILLA TREK IN PARC DES VOLCANOES

Breakfast is served and then after a short briefing, we then start on the trek looking for gorillas in the park with an experienced guide. On the trek to meet the gorillas, you can have a look at some other wildlife including elephants, Buffaloes, golden and other monkeys, several bird species and others until the trek ends with the overwhelming sight of the infamous mountain Gorillas. You will have an hour with a gorilla family and experience their ways of life surprisingly not so different from humans.

Day 12: Gisozi Genocide Memorial and then to the Airport

After having breakfast, we checkout the then ravel back to Kigali, Rwanda. We will have a stop at Gisozi Genocide Memorial Museum. After having a tour at the Museum, we will proceed to the airport.

Recommendations

  • Carry a camera, however flash light is not allowed.
  • You can carry a packed lunch with water.
  • Carry some rain coat, insect repellent and sunscreen lotion.
  • Put on hiking shoes for the slopes can be muddy sometimes.
